Qorvo Offers USB Fast Charger PMICs for Mobile Devices in Vehicles

Beijing, China, February 20, 2020 – Qorvo (NASDAQ: QRVO), a leading provider of RF solutions for mobile applications, infrastructure and aerospace and defense applications, today introduced a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) — ACT4751M, which further expands the company’s portfolio of in-vehicle charging solutions for fast charging of mobile phones, tablets and laptops. Qorvo’s ACT4751M is the industry’s first AEC-Q100 qualified step-down, regulator IC for USB Type-C fast charging applications.

The ACT4751M complies with all power requirements for USB fast charging applications, including the Power Delivery 3.0 Programmable Power Supply (USB PD 3.0 PPS) specification. Unlike competing converter products, it integrates both power and analog functions in a single power IC. When combined with a power delivery controller, this approach creates a complete USB fast charging solution, reducing development time and BOM cost.

The independently step-down ACT4751M operates up to 40V and is protected against load dump events up to 48V in harsh automotive environments. Buck chargers provide protection between the power source and the device to accommodate the difference between the voltage source and the battery being charged. Type-C is a general purpose port capable of delivering high power. These chargers are gaining popularity as more and more applications adopt USB Type-C ports.

AEC-Q100 is an industry standard specification established by the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC). In addition to AEC-Q100 qualification, the ACT4751M also meets automotive EMI standard CISPR 25 Class 3 and patented DC-DC conversion technology requirements.
