Shanghai, China, May 27, 2021-Toshiba Electronic components & Storage Corporation (“Toshiba”) today announced the launch of a new photovoltaic output optocoupler (“photocoupler”)-“TLP3910” in a thin S06L package. Suitable for driving the gate of high-voltage power MOSFETs, which are used to implement isolated solid state relays (SSR)[1]Features. Mass shipments begin today.
SSR is a semiconductor relay with photoelectric thyristor, phototransistor or photothyristor as the output device. It is suitable for applications that perform on/off control of large currents.
Photovoltaic coupler is a kind of photorelay with built-in optics but without MOSFET for performing switching function. When configuring the isolated SSR design, by combining the photovoltaic coupler with the MOSFET, the high-voltage and high-current switch that the photorelay cannot support can be easily realized.
When driving a high-voltage power MOSFET with a gate voltage of not less than 10V, two existing Toshiba products TLP3906 must be connected in series because of its low open circuit voltage. In comparison, the minimum open circuit voltage of the newly introduced TLP3910 is 14V, which is twice that of TLP3906. Only one can drive the gate of a high-voltage power MOSFET. This helps reduce the number of parts.
By improving the built-in discharge circuit, a typical turn-off time of 0.1ms can be achieved, which is about 1/3 of TLP3906 and about 1/30 of TLP191B, thereby achieving faster working speed.
TLP3910 is Toshiba’s first lowest isolation voltage to reach 5000Vrms[2]The photovoltaic coupler, while maintaining the basic performance of the two existing products TLP191B and TLP3906. This is convenient for use in industrial equipment driven by AC400V power supply system. In addition, its maximum operating temperature reaches 125°C, further expanding the scope of application.
application:
Isolated SSR: Gate drive of high-voltage power MOSFET used for switching.
– Industrial equipment: I/O relay contact output for programmable logic controllers, etc.; electromagnetic drive control components for braking systems; main power supply circuits/surge current protection circuits; battery voltage monitoring for battery management systems (BMS) Components; ground fault detection components.
– Measuring equipment: power cord switch; measuring cord switch.
characteristic:
– High open circuit voltage: VOC=14V (minimum value)
– Short circuit current: ISC=12μA (minimum value) @IF=10mA, (C20 gear product) ISC=20μA (minimum value) @IF=10mA
– High isolation voltage: BVS=5000Vrms (minimum)
– High rated operating temperature: Topr (maximum) = 125°C
– Creepage distance (spacing): 8mm (minimum)
Main specifications:
(Unless otherwise stated, @Ta=25℃)
Note:
[1] In an isolated SSR, the primary side and the secondary side are electrically isolated. The isolation barrier controls the switching of the circuits connected to the AC line and the devices of different ground potentials.
