Recently, at the Dubai World Expo in the UAE, an exhibition based on3D printingA technically restored giant statue of David. It is understood that the statue is a work restored by experts from the University of Florence in Italy after thousands of digital scans of the original statue, which is very eye-catching. But the location of this statue has caused widespread controversy.
This “3D printing“David” is about 5 meters high and the material is printed resin, so its weight is only 10% of the original marble sculpture. Because the sculpture is too high, the organizer can only place the statue in a two-story, octagonal vertical shaft-like exhibition area. In this way, ordinary tourists can only see the head and part of the shoulders of the David statue on the second floor, and cannot appreciate the whole body. Only authorized VIP visitors can enter the next floor to enjoy the full view of the sculpture up close.
This behavior aroused heated debate and was considered to be a disguised code for art statues. A professor of art history at a university in Rome believes that this approach is deliberately “classifying”.
