On September 8, 2021, 3D Systems announced an acquisition agreement with Oqton, a software company that is a leader in creating a new intelligent, cloud-based manufacturing operating system (MOS) platform.
Will operate as an independent organization and solution platform within 3D Systems
Oqton’s MOS platform is tailored for flexible production environments that increasingly utilize a range of advanced manufacturing and automation technologies in production workflows, including additive manufacturing (AM) solutions. Cloud-based solutions leverage industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies to provide customers with a new and powerful way to automate their digital manufacturing workflows, expand their operations, and enhance their competition force. Combining these tools with an agile platform can be quickly applied to the most challenging production workflows, such as those in the dental, healthcare, biotechnology, aerospace, and automotive industries.
“Our industrial and healthcare customers are accelerating the adoption of additive manufacturing in production environments,” said Dr. Jeffrey Graves, President and CEO of 3D Systems. “They are increasingly aware of the need for a manufacturing software platform that can not only The printer itself can be easily and intelligently integrated, and all digital production systems and key enterprise software can be integrated to optimize the entire workflow from raw materials to finished products and inspection components. The system must be flexible enough not only to adapt to today’s manufacturing technology, but also to be able to Easily adapt to future platform changes. Oqton MOS meets this market demand by seamlessly integrating corporate information and data in customers’ current ERP, MES, PLM and CRM systems, as well as a full range of workshop manufacturing operations and software. Use APIs to Creating easy links between these systems is a unique attribute of Oqton MOS. This allows customers to use the manufacturing and automation equipment of their choice on the shop floor to meet their unique factory needs. Oqton’s cloud-based MOS solution has embedded AI and Machine learning capabilities, and then optimize and automate these manufacturing elements in ways that cannot be achieved today. The solution reduces barriers to the adoption of additive manufacturing in a transformative way by integrating solutions and optimizing production workflows.”
The usability of Oqton MOS meets key industry needs by optimizing customers’ use of 3D printing and other advanced manufacturing technologies (including collaborative robots, machining, finishing, and inspection operations) in a complete production environment. In order to most effectively meet this demand, Oqton will operate as an independent organization and solution platform within 3D Systems, ensuring data confidentiality and security protocols through third-party verification.
By acquiring Oqton and committing to continue to focus on transforming and optimizing digital manufacturing systems, 3D Systems will also expand its most advanced software platform-3DXpert®, 3D Sprint®, Geomagic ® product portfolio, and Additive Works’ Amphion™
