Create a digital life cycle platform
One of the main goals of the project is to create a digital lifecycle platform using AI to help production engineers design, analyze and build components faster and at a lower cost.Once production is completed, the platform will enable users to develop a variety of large components with complex geometries and embedded multi-function functions. These types of components may include vehicle components with power transmission, energy storage, sensing, and self-monitoring functions. The first phase of the project will receive $6.3 million in funding to support ongoing research at the Clemson Composites Center at the Greenville Institute of Technology Manufacturing Innovation Center.Clemson researchers will use 3D Systems for DEVCOM ARL’s “World’s Largest Metal3D printingMachine’s technology and functions.The printing system is equipped with nine lasers and a large-format manufacturing cabin measuring 1m x 1m x 600mm. It will be used to meet the needs of the armed forces for ammunition, ground vehicles, helicopters and missile defense.

Collaborate on MX Initiative
Clemson University is also cooperating with ARL on another project called MX Initiative, which brings together an interdisciplinary team of faculty to conduct basic and applied research to support the modernization and future capabilities of the U.S. Army.
