Reading on August 14, 2019, German 3DMP Metal3D printingMachine manufacturer GEFERTEC is currently opening a manufacturing plant in Danville, Virginia.
The plant will be the company’s first plant in the United States and will establish 8 new jobs. GEFERTEC’s US plant will receive a capital investment of US$1.9 million. This includes a $45,000 grant from the Tobacco District Revitalization Committee as part of its fund (TROF) program.

GEFERTEC 3DMP technology uses a metal additive manufacturing process based on arc welding wires to manufacture near-net-shape parts. According to GEFERTEC, 3DMP technology can almost achieve 100% material utilization and “compared with traditional manufacturing, cost savings up to 60%.” The company also claims that the technology can simplify the traditional manufacturing process into three steps: warehousing , Manufacturing, and integrated milling system.
Currently, GEFERTEC has developed four 3DMP machines in its product portfolio. These include arc603, a 3-axis machine capable of producing a maximum volume of 3 cubic meters, a maximum mass of 3000 kg, and a 5-axis machine arc605 with a maximum capacity of 0.8 cubic meters and a weight of 500 kg.
GEFERTEC has also developed arc405, a 5-axis machine tool with a capacity of 0.06m3 and a maximum mass of 200 kg, and the 3-axis machine tool arc403 selected by Airbus for the aerospace industry.
The system is suitable for manufacturing solutions for metal processing companies and R&D institutions in all walks of life.
During the TCT Asia exhibition held in Shanghai in 2019, Antarctic Bear reported on GEFRTEC. GEFERTEC of Germany has developed new methods for producing metal parts. These methods exceed the limitations of traditional production processes, thus providing designers, engineers and companies with different options. The same molding method.
3DMP combines the mature and highly reliable arc welding method with the CAD data of the metal parts to be produced. The interface between the planning data of engineers and developers and the arc welding machine is customized software, which converts CAD data into a separate digital printing layer, so it is called a CAM model. Realize automatic printing of parts through multi-axis control.3D scanningTo control the print quality. Milling of finished parts.
The material is metal wire instead of powder
3DMP uses wire as a printing material.
Compared with powder, wire has the following advantages:
Material utilization rate is close to 100%
Simple storage
Low material cost
Easy to handle
Good processability
Wide selection of materials
In traditional welding, electric arcs are used to weld metals. They make full use of the advantages of many interdisciplinary and high-maturity technologies to provide layering of multiple metal layers in a fully automatic, digitally controlled, and easy-to-operate manner3D printing.
Comparison of traditional manufacturing process and 3DMP
3DMP can replace all traditional manufacturing and processing methods of metal parts, such as forming, cutting, welding, coating, milling, turning, etc.
Compared with the traditional manufacturing of mechanically finished near-net-shape parts, 3DMP is the most economical and effective additive manufacturing method, saving up to 60% in production costs.
Because 3DMP has only 3 steps, instead of the overly complicated process of traditional processes, it reduces process, material, investment and production costs.
