Stephan Henrich designed and 3D printed a unique design
shoe
it is said that its shape is imitation of the legendary
biology
designed for the feet.
This shoe is made by SLS 3D printermanufacturer
Sintratec
The SLS S2 system is printed and it has a claw-like shape. To quote its author Henrich, it’s a bit like the claws of those so-called “mysterious cave creatures” (like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster) in legend.
The shoe is specifically designed for printing on the Sintratec S2 SLS system, which consists of a laser sintering unit, material core unit and material handling station, allowing users to seamlessly switch from one process step to another.
This printing system has previously
car
used in applications such as the Daimler AG for
bus
and 3D printing of truck spare parts, a team of students at ETH Zurich used the system to design a functional electric motorcycle. Now, Henrich is using the S2 to fully 3D print shoes with unique designs so that they can be customized to the shape of the wearer’s foot.
Heinrich, who focuses on design for additive manufacturing, describes his work as including architecture, interpretation and robotics design.Previously, he worked on a number of 3D printing and robotics design projects, and was shortlisted for 2021 last November3D printing industryAward’s annual list of community advocates.
In his most recent project, Henrich utilizes Sintratec’s S2
3D printerand flexible TPE material to create his unique magical shoe designs. The Cryptide sneakers are 3D-printed with an open-design sole and an upper with a sock-like texture. The shoes were printed with Sintratec’s TPE elastic material due to the material’s superior elastic properties.
Using the S2, Henrich was able to vary the wall thickness of different elements of the Cryptide shoe, making some parts stiffer, like the sole, while others remained soft and flexible. According to Henrik, this not only makes the shoe ergonomic, but also more comfortable to wear.
While Henrich has revealed his completed “Mysterious Creature” Cryptide 3D-printed shoe, it’s unclear if the sneaker will be available to the public anytime soon to give the experience a different feel.
For some time now, 3D printing has been used to enable a variety of innovative footwear designs, both in sports and fashion. For example, German sporting goods giant Adidas continued to work with 3D printer manufacturer Carbon to release a new version of its 3D printed 4DFWD midsole, while CRP Technologies used its 3D printing capabilities and Windform SP carbon fiber material to develop a unique track shoe . 4DFWD is upgraded on the basis of 4D Futurecraft and AlphaEDGE, and has designed a unique grid structure. The lattice unit of the 4DFWD midsole is not a spiral or a simple cross, but a bow tie that “has been compressed forward on vertical impact”.
