Introduction: On December 14, 2021, GUtech, the German University of Technology in Oman, held a celebration event. They are currently using3D printingCompleted the construction of a house of 190 square meters, which is by far the largest real made of concrete3D printingbuilding. This printed house is a typical representative of a social housing unit in Oman. It has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and guest reception area. The architectural style is the typical house style of Oman. The construction of the house was completed in only 5 days.
Another point of concern for this house is the use of ordinary concrete. At present, most of the 3D printed houses use special dry-mix mortar, the price is 4-10 times that of ordinary concrete. In order to further reduce the cost of 3D printing houses, some manufacturers and institutions are currently trying to 3D print houses with ordinary concrete.
This D.fab concrete 3D printing solution was jointly developed by COBOD and CEMEX. The material has a particle size of 10mm and is made of local existing cement, sand and gravel. At the same time, the solution has been successfully applied in Angola, where a 52-square-meter house was made, and the cost of concrete materials was less than US$1,000 (6300 RMB).
As far as Oman is concerned, more than 99.5% of the materials used are local materials, while the material additives from Europe are less than 0.5%. 190 square meters of house wall3D printing materialsThe cost is less than 1,600 euros (11538 RMB). According to COBOD, if a printable dry-mix mortar is used, the material cost will exceed 20,000 Euros (144,000 RMB).
3D printing concrete solutions using locally available materials will undoubtedly promote the large-scale application of architectural 3D printing. With the low cost of printing materials, this 3D printing construction method will be more competitive, and at the same time, local materials will be reduced. The limitation of materials makes 3D printing buildings better promoted.
