The partnership is part of the blockchain approach of the Force Supply Chain Additive Manufacturing Parts (BASECAMP) project. BASECAMP will use the SIMBA Chain platform to demonstrate the blockchain method for registration and tracking throughout the entire life cycle3D printingComponents.
Blockchain in additive manufacturing
Each block in the blockchain database is an organized record, which includes a reference to the previous block and a timestamp. Complex mathematical algorithms link these blocks together in the time cryptographic chain and prohibit rearrangement along the chain.
The principle of blockchain is to combine digital records into blocks to create an immutable and creditless digital ledger. The agreement rules and conditions are first established by the parties and coded as a pre-programmed contract. When the event specified by the condition occurs, the code will be executed automatically. Once done, the contract terms will automatically transfer value to the correct parties. The counterparty’s transactions are recorded in the blockchain.
With funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), SIMBA Chain was established to develop a secure, unbreakable messaging and transaction platform for the U.S. military. The main application of SIMBA Chain technology is the communications of the Ministry of Defense. Blockchain already communicates between ground forces and their headquarters or between intelligence personnel and the Pentagon.
