China3D printingOn August 24th, German bicycle manufacturer Urwahn Bikes and Austrian custom motorcycle brand Vagabund Moto have developed a belt3D printingA new type of bicycle with a steel frame. An unusual design,3D printingMake the so-called “Stadtfuchs” or “Urban Fox” lighter than usual, and let the electronic components fit into the streamlined frame.
CurrentlyThe partners have already booked 50 bicycles. Urwahn’s current goal is to produce 100 by the end of this year3D printingframe. Ramon Thomas, CEO and co-founder of Urwahn Bikes said:”The adaptability of the habitat is the key to the survival of each animal.
Fox is a completely adapted artist. It has conquered our cities, they have great improvements and creativity, [这]As the prototype of STADTFUCHS. “

After several years of development, the Urwahn x Vagabund team led by designer Sebastian Meinecke developed the Stadtfuchs bicycle frame using pre-alloyed ultra-high-strength steel 1.2709. A Concept Laser M2 with a multi-laser system is used to manufacture the frame, which is made into components and then welded together.

“When we started developing the Urwahn framework in a university project about 4 years ago, one of our first prototypes was already printed by selective laser fusion. We also tried other production techniques.”Thomas
Explained.
A unique feature of this bike is that it does not have a seat tube, and the support frame is usually located under the seat, giving the frame a “floating” appearance. 3D printingThe intelligent integration of the LED light system is also realized.

“After we continued with precision casting, we realized that the frame walls in these production processes were too thin.” Thomas continued, “Therefore, we switched to SLM and managed to get a very good-looking surface and reliable quality.
These positive features combine the possibility of integrating technical elements such as light, cable routing or seat clips into the frame, providing our3D printingQualifications are provided. “

3D printingThe bicycle frame is composed of the main lugs, including the pull tube, the single tube, the head tube, the seat connector, the bottom bracket and the dropper. In the design process, a new type of teardrop-shaped, high-strength CrMo steel pipe with a wall thickness of less than 0.9 mm was used. These parts are then welded together.
“The filigree stretched tube profile constitutes the basic structure of our innovative steel frame. Similar to the rear legs of a fox, the elastic rear frame ensures dynamic maneuverability and compensates for uneven road surfaces, which is beneficial to your driving comfort. ,” Thomas explained.

By the end of 2019, the partners’ current goal is to produce 100 fully assembled bicycles. Thomas added, “futureWe will use this method for further product development.
As the next generation of products changes, we can integrate more components for more natural bicycles. “
The complete production cycle of the Stadtfuchs bicycle takes 8-10 weeks and is priced at 4,499 euros. For this price tag, customers are provided with a bicycle with integrated anti-theft protection (tracking provided through the app), lights, hydraulic brake system and noise-free Shimano gear system.

“We are proud to call ourselves a technological pioneer in the bicycle industry,” Thomas continued. “Among the many pre-orders received, we have produced 50 bicycles so far. Our goal is to produce 100 bicycles this year.”
