On May 17, 2022, just days after MakerBot and Ultimaker announced plans to merge, Czech Prusa Research, one of the two companies’ most well-known competitors, announced a new move to acquire3D printerDistributor Printed Solid Inc.
Founded in 2011, Prusa shares some product DNA with MakerBot and Ultimaker, both products of the open-source RepRap project. Prusa’s i3 system has become the leading FDM desktop3D printerOne, because of its low cost, small footprint, and ease of maintenance.
Founded in 2013, Printed Solid is a3D printing materialsand parts retailers. Acquired Ranlaser three years after its founding, and has since started manufacturing and selling its own printer security enclosures.
Through the acquisition of Printed Solid, Prusa hopes to extend its tentacles to U.S. retail channels by opening up a vertical chain, so as to provide more attractive 3D printers, related accessories and materials for local enterprises, educational customers and government agencies.
In a blog post, Print Solid stated: By the fourth quarter of 2022, Printed Solid Inc. will acquire additional warehousing, operational space and staffing, committed to maintaining and improving the quality and reputation of Prusa Research, and providing U.S.-based In-warranty and out-of-warranty repairs and services, including spare parts for Prusa Research. Help ease the burden of international shipping and reduce customer response time for repairs and replacements.
The Printed Solid brand will continue under the new parent company, with David Randolph continuing as CEO.
Founder Josef Prusa said in an article: “[Randolph的]The amazing team will help improve the original Prusa 3D printer, parts, accessories and service. “We have already started working with business, government and education. In the near future, we hope to offer 3D printer maintenance services to all customers in the US. Just please be patient. We have completed the acquisition and the first round
