The RYA combined heat and power (CHP) plant where the project will be carried out is currently fueled by natural gas. To generate electricity, the plant operates three GT-1 SGT-800 gas turbines and one ST-1 SST-900 DH steam turbine, with a total capacity of 276 MW.

In 2017, Siemens won the3D printingIndustry annual application award. In order to strengthen its commitment to natural gas and power additive manufacturing, the company served as the project manager for the industrial implementation of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) Digital Engineering and Additive Manufacturing (IDEA) grant project in July 2019. The prototype of the industrial production line developed by the project will be manufactured at the Siemens Gas Turbine Plant in Berlin and the MBFZ Tool Plant in George Simender.
